Planetary science is the study of our own planet, Earth, along with the rest of our solar system.  By studying other planets, we may learn more about our own origins.  Ultimately, the knowledge we gain through extra-terrestrial studies could help us answer the fundamental question: “Is there life beyond Earth?”

Besides Earth, Mars is the most studied planet.  Mars is a compelling target for discovering evidence of life, and has a real potential for human exploration. Since Mars has many similarities to Earth, it provides a valuable opportunity to teach real-world science and bring NASA’s Mars missions “down to Earth.”

Students, teachers and museum visitors who take part in the Blue Planet Red Planet program will become better acquainted with their home planet and their mysterious red neighbor planet.  Ultimately, From the Blue Planet to the Red Planet strives to inspire, engage, educate and ultimately employ the next generation of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics explorers and innovators.
